Learning to love the Outdoors

The weather has been atrocious this week and I really wish it would make its mind up as to what it is going to do. I thought it was meant to be Summer.

Recently, staff from across the Federation have had INSET training on teaching and learning outdoors utilising our very own nature areas to good effect with the children. Staff have then been tasked with adapting our curriculums to include outdoor learning opportunities and then delivering an outdoor session with their classes for review later prior to our second training session. As you can see from the photograph, some staff have already started and the children have loved it. Caterpillars have been learning to weave using natural resources they collected from within the nature area.  

It has been very entertaining and rewarding spending time with the Ladybirds this week, because they are so comical when they are engaged with their activities. They are always so welcoming to me and keen to engage me in their learning through play. September seems such a long way off now, but they really have settled and enjoy being in school with one another. 

I was very impressed with the attendance at the new Reception Parents' Meeting this week. Thank you to Norse and Harrisons Schoolwear for attending also to support the occasion, alongside Rev. Jo, whose presence helped us evidence our strength of community spirit. 

Next week, we will be enjoying a cross-phase arts week, where our older classes will be working with younger classes. We also have a non-uniform day on Friday in exchange for a raffle/tombola prize.
